Far be it from me to condemn a movie before it's release. I generally can hold my critical observations for the post movie review. And even though I'm not really looking forward to the casting of Keanu "Whoa!" Reeves as Spike Spiegel, I always give these projects the benefit of the doubt. It takes a lot for a movie to go south, a bad DP, a bad director, narcissistic actors and a horrendous script can do it. But generally, it takes a lot of things to go wrong for a film to be outright awful.
That aside, I have a fearful doubt about Snyder's version of Watchmen. As you can see in the picture, the man who kills The Comedian, is too clearly outlined. The problem being that aside from the multitude of levels Watchmen touches on as a novel; at the end of the day it's still a murder mystery. While we know that The Black Freighter excerpts will not make the theatrical version of the film, and very little of the first generation of superheroes known as the Minutemen will make the cut. We can forgive that it's understandable, after all how do you take a 12 issue comic book series and condense it to under 3 hours?
My main concern is that the shots like the above will ruin the film for those who haven't read the graphic novel, or those that refuse to read the base material. Contradictory to all of the above I am excited about this film, I just have concerns about how the ending will affect those who have yet to expose themselves to Moore's writing.
